FSX A2A P51D Mustang Intro and Familiarisation [HD 720]

An intro video to the fantastic P51D Mustang recently released by A2A Simulations, for MS Flight Simulator X. This video shows a quick takeoff and flight (which includes a loop) followed by a landing at Cunderdin airfield in WA, Australia. This airfield is fast becoming my favourite for 'testing' and training in A2A aircraft, before re-locating them to more scenic and challenging environments. The venerable Merlin engine was a little bit reluctant to get started, but once going, the airplane behaved flawlessly. An attempted run-up at 30 inches MP saw the brakes being overpowered by the power of the massive 12-cylinder Merlin, so I had to settle for a lower power setting for the mag check. Note that the startup procedure is not shown here in full (whoops); the battery and generator switches as well as the fuel valve are already set and the engine had been briefly primed before recording started. The takeoff run was a little bit dicey but seeing as this was my 2nd or 3rd flight with this bird, I was ready for the torque effect from the big Merlin; you could even say I over-compensated with right rudder. The ambient temperatures in this video were a little high (around low 30s C) however the cooling system of the P51 was easily up to the task. Those with a keen eye will notice that I did engage the oil dilution system briefly during warmup as the oil pressure needle was redlined at 100PSI even at idle (the oil system can handle higher pressures, however why risk it). The P51D is decked-out with late-war automation technology, such as the automatic coolant and oil cooler flap controls, which certainly allow for a more in-depth flight experience without having the worry about the little things. There is however still the opportunity to manually operate a lot of the systems if so desired, as I did with the coolant and oil cooler flaps during warmup and post-landing. This P51D only has about 3-4 hours of run time on it so far and it is running absolutely fine. Stay tuned for more videos on the P51...there's still a lot to cover!
