Vladimir Putin’s decision to convert foreign payments for Russian gas into rubles is being analyzed by purchasing countries. Some of them did not see any problem in such a switch, while others, on the contrary, started to think about it. In what form could it be realized in practice? How would this technically work? What will be the price of gas in Europe?
At the moment Gazprom receives all foreign payments for gas supplied in foreign currency. In roughly this proportion: 58% - in euros, 39% - in dollars, about 3% - in British pounds. Since Russia’s foreign currency reserves have been blocked by the West, i.e., depriving Moscow of actual access to this money, payments will now be accepted in rubles.
