Serhiy Makogon, CEO of the GTS Operator of Ukraine company, turned to the German authorities with a proposal to shut off the #NordStream1 gas pipeline. In his opinion, Ukraine’s gas transportation system will be able to cope with the necessary volume of Russian gas transit to Europe.
In an interview with Ukraine 24 TV channel, Makogon specified that his company sent a request to the German Ministry of Economy together with Naftogaz. Substantiation presented: the capabilities of Nord Stream 1 “are no longer true.”
Therefore, Ukraine demands to review the exceptions made earlier for the operation of Nord Stream 1 and suspend gas supplies to Europe through it.
At the same time, the transit of Russian gas to Europe before the introduction of a full embargo by the EU should be directed through the Ukrainian GTS, Makogon explained.
