‘Georgia Official Park Cannon Arrested Over Protesting New Voting Bill’

A Georgia state representative was arrested and removed at the state Capitol for protesting on Thursday night.

Democratic lawmaker Park Cannon was detained after she knocked on the door to Republican Governor Brian Kemp’s office.

She was taken to a county jailhouse where she was charged with two misdemeanours before being released.

Georgia Rep. Kemp drew protests as he signed into an overhaul of state elections.
  
The new bill includes new restrictions on voting by mail and greater control over how elections are run.

Democrats and voting rights groups say the law will disproportionately disenfranchise voters of colour.

Its part of a wave of new GOP-backed election bills after President Trump stoked false claims that fraud led to his election defeat.
