The speech of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Vakhtang Gomelauri was disrupted by representatives of the opposition in parliament in Tbilisi on Sunday.

Opposition MPs descended on the podium and demanded the minister’s resignation. Members were holding photographs of the deceased cameraman Alexander Lashkarava.

The protest action caused the suspension of the speech of the Minister of Internal Affairs. The action was supported by journalists from opposition TV channels.

They hung posters demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri from the gallery of the conference room.

At the same time, a protest action by journalists was held outside the walls of the parliament. The media representatives demanded to be allowed to the meeting.

Mass protests in the country erupted in connection with the death of TV Pirveli operator Lekso Lashkarava on July 11. The man was found dead in his apartment after he was beaten while covering an anti-LGBT march on July 5.
