Tbilisi’s biggest and most central Christmas tree was lit up in in front of the parliament building on Friday.

Footage filmed during the occasion showed several hundred residents and guests who came to admire the festivities.

Tbilisi Mayor and former A.C. Milan legend Kakha Kaladze, as well as Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili attended the ceremony with their families.

Before the tree was illuminated, Kaladze addressed the public, appealing to them to show more respect and love for each other.

According to media reports, the city administration is planning more colorful and large-scale events this season, unlike last year, in which they took place modestly because of the difficult epidemiological situation.

Kaladze announced earlier that a ‘New Year Village’ will open on December 24th at Orbeliani Square and Deda Ena garden and will operate until January 14th.

Residents and visitors to the capital will also be able to visit Christmas fairs, a skating rink, and other events during this period.
