Berlin residents voiced their approval with newly-announced tighter COVID restrictions especially for those not currently vaccinated, on Thursday.
“I think everybody had the chance to get vaccinated and everybody had access to the vaccine and now it is justifiable because everyone had the chance and could have been vaccinated in order to protect other and had the will to protect all,” said Lisa, a resident whose sentiment was also reflected by the others.
“This is really bitter but I think this is unavoidable and now it is time to do it quickly to get it done and over quickly,” stated another resident.
Earlier on Thursday, outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that both federal and state governments had reached an agreement on the tightening of COVID-19 restrictions during a press conference held in Berlin.
In retail, store access is restricted according to the 2G rule, which includes vaccinated and recovered people, regardless of the incidence. Shops for daily needs are excluded, according to the Chancellor.
Cultural, leisure facilities and restaurants will also only be open for vaccinated and those who have recovered. Furthermore, contact restrictions for the unvaccinated were decided.
According to the latest figures published on Thursday by the RKI, a total of 68.7 percent of the country’s population has received their second jabs and 71.6 percent of the population have received at least one jab.
