A protest organised by a group of anti-lockdown campaigners has led to some 80 arrests, after a previously banned march was held in central Berlin on Sunday.

Demonstrators could be seen trying to break through police chains, made in an attempt to stop them walking to Alexanderplatz, as well as defacing election posters with anti-lockdown slogans.

The assembly marked the second consecutive day of protests in Berlin, with 180 demonstrators reportedly having been arrested over the course of the weekend.

Germany has eased a number of restrictions this summer, but some are still in place, such as mandatory mask-wearing on public transport and certain indoor spaces.

A total of 3,913,828 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Germany, along with 92,096 related deaths, according to the latest figures from Friday compiled by the World Health Organization (WHO).
