Free Democratic Party (FDP) leader Christian Lindner said that there “must not be any new lockdowns” at an election rally in Frankfurt am Main on Thursday.
“Do not vote tactically this election. Voting tactically this election does not make any sense this time around because we don’t know what constellation is coming,” Lindner warned his supporters, ahead of Germany’s general elections set for September 26.
Lindner’s FDP could become the kingmakers in coalition talks with multiple possible government formations on the cards according to the latest polling, which puts the FDP in fourth with around 12 percent of the vote.
Last national election, Lindner stepped out of coalition talks on a possible Jamaica Coalition, with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Green Party, due to Lindner’s demand of heading the German Finance Ministry.

SOT, Christian Lindner, FDP party leader (German): “We are here at this restaurant. It was closed for a while. How many other businesses were closed? How many thousands of people feared for their economic existence and the freelancers who had to reach into their pensions and that is why ladies and gentlemen, the Free Democrats never doubted the dangers of the pandemic but also in fighting a pandemic there are risks for our society. That is why there must not be any new lockdowns or any limits on our freedoms.”

SOT, Christian Lindner, FDP party leader (German): “Here is the answer for the pandemic. (Bell rings) It’s getting dramatic. I wanted to say, here is the responsible answer in the pandemic, please get vaccinated. Please get vaccinated.”

SOT, Christian Lindner, FDP party leader (German): “Do not vote tactically this election. Voting tactically this election does not make any sense this time around because we don’t know what constellation is coming. The Free Democrats must be strong. We need to move as close as we can to the Greens because we want to be the ones to decide the format of the coalition.”

SOT, Christian Lindner, FDP party leader (German): “Vote with your own convictions. Freedom before the state, profit before redistribution, inventing before banning. If you see it the same way then give all your votes in 2021 to freedom.”
