Germany: Federal press conference announces Chancellor Merkel's trip to Moscow and Ukraine

Federal press conference spokespersons answered questions regarding bilateral visits by the chancellor to Russia and Ukraine, in Berlin on Friday. Also discussed was the security of German diplomats in Kabul and the Tesla Gigafactory near Berlin.

Steffen Seibert told journalists present that the chancellor would travel to both Moscow and Ukraine later this month. He would provide further information on the visits at the beginning of next week.
“On Friday, August 20, the chancellor will travel to Moscow,” said spokesperson Steffen Seibert. “On Sunday, August 22, the chancellor will visit Ukraine,” he added.

Asked about the remaining employees at the German embassy in Kabul, the government spokesperson replied that the authorities were working on measures for the security of employees with the help of international partners.

“We are also in intensive contact with our international partners on this. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas spoke on the phone yesterday with his American counterpart, Mr. Blinken,” said federal spokesperson Christofer Burger.
