Hamburg’s traditional Roncalli Christmas market welcomed visitors on Monday divided into two areas: the one with retail stalls accessible for everybody and the food area, where only vaccinated people and those who recovered from COVID-19 could access.

After a year of forced cancellation due to the pandemic, the city’s beloved market at the Rathausmarkt square returned with security checking people’s COVID certificates and tests.
Germany is currently battling a fourth wave of the pandemic, with infections at an all-time high.

Translation:
SOT, Marine, Saleswoman (German): “Well like a weekly market, you have to see it like a weekly market, we would really like for 2G to apply for our stand, because then people could try our products. People may not now try samples [since the stall is accessible also for the unvaccinated]. That’s the problem.”
