Germany: Hamburg Zoo orangutans celebrate Halloween with pumpkin feast

Pumpkins could be seen all around Hamburg Zoo “Tierpark Hagenbeck” as staff decided to surprise its orangutans with a pre-Halloween feast on Thursday.
“On the occasion of Halloween we got large pumpkins, shaped and designed them and distributed them around the enclosure. It was a great and exciting surprise for our orangutans to examine these pumpkins, smash them and also eat them,” said animal keeper Tiagt Güter-Sebbel.
Employees at the zoo were thrilled by the special occasion, since pumpkins are not part of the orangutans’ daily diet.
“Especially since our orangutans don’t usually see pumpkins that big, and particularly our young animals, which is the first time they’ve ever seen anything like this.” the keeper commented.
Unfortunately, the event was closed to the public due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
