Berlin residents queued for hours outside a Neukolln test centre after reports that 300 people received red warnings on their coronavirus tracking apps.
Residents could be seen queuing on Friday, with some prepared for a wait likely to last several hours. Between 500-700 PCR tests are being carried out each day in Berlin state’s testing centres, according to a worker.
Reports have emerged of laboratory shortages, with test centres starting to turn people away who have been in contact with COVID-positive people without positive test results themselves.

SOT, Matthias, Neukolln resident (German): “Firstly for 20 mins. But it will take a long time. Friends said it has sometimes taken 3 hours.”
SOT, Daniel, Test centre worker (German): “ The situation every day is quite turbulent. There are quite a lot of people, as you can see. And actually the people must wait two to three wait to do the PCR test. And by such weather it’s not so good.”
SOT, Daniel, Test centre worker (German): “That’s a good question. We do around 500-700 PCR tests per day.”
SOT, Daniel, Test centre worker (German): “That’s like that every day. And it’s like that in every location we have, there’s only one test centre per district. There’s no solution.”
