Mourners gathered in Halle on Saturday to mark the second anniversary of the Halle synagogue attack, in which two people were shot by a far-right extremist.

Crowds could be seen laying bouquets, with hand-written notes and wreaths also place outside Halle synagogue, in honour of the victims.

On October 9, 2019, a man opened fire at individuals in the vicinity of a synagogue in the eastern German city of Halle, after failing to gain entry to the building where 52 people were celebrating Yom Kippur. He was sentenced to life in prison in December 2020, after being charged with counts of murder with ‘anti-Semitic, racist and xenophobic’ intention by a regional court.
