Germany: No connections between NSU and murdered politician suspect

A witness testified that no connection was found between the far right Neo-Nazi NSU group and the man convicted of murdering Hessan politician Walter Lubcke.
“From their point of view, the working thesis of the BKA (Federal Criminal Police Office) is that there is no direct connection to the NSU (National Socialist Underground),” said SPD member of Hessian Parliament, Gunther Rudolph, in Wiesbaden on Thursday.
“I deliberately asked the question to the representative of the BKA of whether he saw a connection between the NSU and (Stephan) Ersnt and Hartmann, one can name him. He said no, he did not see one,” said CDU member of Hessian Parliament, Holger Bellino.
Earlier this year, far-right extremist Stephan E. was convicted of murdering the pro-migrant CDU politician Walter Lubcke. He was handed a life sentence.

SOT, Gunther Rudolph, SPD member of Hessian Landtag (German): “He made a very professional impression and is reporting on the processes of the BKA (Federal Criminal Police Office) which were activated after the murder of Dr (Walter) Lubcke, and there are some interesting notes about the way of the work and it sounds like very professional police work, as we would wish, but we have also witnessed that this is unfortunately not the standard everywhere, especially with other Hessian authorities.”

SOT, Gunther Rudolph, SPD member of Hessian Landtag (German): “From their point of view, the working thesis of the BKA is that there is no direct connection to the NSU (National Socialist Underground).”

SOT, Holger Bellino, CDU member of Hessian Landtag (German): “I deliberately asked the question to the representative of the BKA of whether he saw a connection between the NSU and (Stephan) Ersnt and Hartmann, one can name him. He said no, he did not see one, but of course this question was put towards others who were involved in this investigation. This is an essential point, were there connections, are there connections to this day, not only with those two but in general in this right-wing scene, this is of crucial importance, but so far this has been denied.”

SOT, Holger Bellino, CDU member of Hessian Landtag (German): “My feelings on this are irrelevant, we are working as much as we can to learn about this scene in order to see where we can position our authorities even better. Notably yesterday was that one of the neo-Nazis said ‘we couldn’t arrange any events in Hesse, because they were immediately dissolved by the police’ that’s why they had to go to Thuringen, that shows, I think, as well, that the police were already well prepared back then, even if they were not able to prevent everything.”
