SOT, Marek Wede, Interior Ministry spokesperson (German): “Firstly I can confirm that a hacking attack took place against one server of the Federal Bureau of Statistics. The server that was attacked is part of the development area for the census and in this sense it is separated technically and locally from the other systems of the Federal Bureau of Statistics.”

SOT, Marek Wede, Interior Ministry spokesperson (German): “Until now there is no evidence from the BSI (Federal Bureau of Statistics) about any manipulation or data retrieve from this effected server.”

SOT, Marek Wede, Interior Ministry spokesperson (German): “As much as we can say by now, the internal election server was not affected by this attack. And therefore there is no danger by this hacking attack regarding the conduct of this federal election.”

SOT, Marek Wede, Interior Ministry spokesperson (German): “We have no complete overview about all attacks on parties, on the political system because the parties voluntarily disclose those attacks. In case they disclose [an attack] of course we offer support to investigate the damage, to support the effected institutions. We have an overview about the attacks within the government network and here I can tell you, that the amount of attacks has stayed steady lately.”

SOT, Steffen Seibert, Government spokesperson (German): “The safety of the federal election is of high value, the right to vote is an essential constitutional right, a base of our democracy and therefore I want to point to the information of the federal election leader. He clearly said here at the federal press conference and many other channels, that the elections and the electoral process are safe and that the adequate conduct is guaranteed. He especially said, that the vote by letter is as safe as the ballot box.”

SOT, Marek Wede, Interior Ministry spokesperson (German): “For now it is too early to say what causalities led to this crime and I cannot speculate about single profiles on social media might have contributed to this. I ask for your understanding that the authorities of Rhineland-Palatinate are leading the investigations.”

SOT, Marek Wede, Interior Ministry spokesperson (German): “The investigations are ongoing, we have no final results and until then it is pure speculation to say that certain twitter accounts led to this abhorrent murder.”

SOT, Sebastian Guelde, Health Ministry spokesperson (German): “Yes, it is correct Mr Rinke, that we experience a decrease of numbers in many areas of life. How are those numbers to be assessed? Well, we expect that current development can be ascribed to the return after the summer holiday travel. We also see a decrease in the predicted infections at the start of the school year and with the backdrop of the achieved vaccination quota and the implementation of 3G or 2G rules in many areas it likely led to a decrease of infections. In general it is still too early to speak of a all-clear-signal or a continuing trend.”
