Ulrike Demmer, spokesperson for the Federal Press and Information Office, confirmed that the outgoing Merkel government will not push for a vaccine mandate at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.
“This government (Merkel) won’t fill in the mandatory vaccination,” said Demmer, adding, “Merkel, Scholz and the heads of the federal states met yesterday for an informal talk and the decisions will come possibly tomorrow but in which form and exactly when I can not say but we will keep you informed as it goes.”
The incoming governing coalition of the SPD, German Greens and FDP have expressed the need for a vaccine mandate with the recent spike in COVID cases in Germany.
