Germany: Petition calls for referendum to dissolve Bavarian parliament

A movement called Alliance ‘Landtag Abberufen’ (Parliament Recalled) has been collecting signatures to call for a referendum to dissolve the Bavarian parliament, as seen on Monday in Munich.
The petition, which the state parliament president Ilse Aigner called an ‘attack on democracy,’ needs a million signatures to be approved.
“We have experienced a turning away from citizens’ rights, which the Bavarian Parliament should have dunned. It should have taken action against it. It should have prevented, or at least prevented now, the legislative competence from being handed over to the Federal Ministry of Health. These things do not correspond to the democratic will of the citizens”, the alliance’s spokesperson Gerhard Estermann said.
This organisation is reportedly close to the COVID-sceptic ‘Querdenker’ movement, which the spokesperson denied. “One of the co-supporters was still in a ‘Querdenker” organisation last year in October, but he has long since left,” he pondered.
