'Godzilla' Saharan Dust Plume Engulfs Mexico and Caribbean

A thick plum of dust has travelled 5,000 kilometres across the Atlantic from the Sahara Desert, engulfing part of Mexico and the Caribbeans.

The dust has resulted in “unhealthy” air, but the phenomenon, known as the Saharan Air Layer, is a relatively common occurrence.

The enormous dust plume is expected to continue drifting west, and is very likely to reach southern parts of the US later this week.
