A special gold-plated Diwali sweet costing a whopping 50,000 INR (EUR 584) per kilo, was all the rage with the Lucknow locals during the Indian festival of light, on Saturday.
This bite-sized ‘Mithai’ was designed by Chahappan Bhog, a well-known manufacturer of premium sweets and other delicacies, with the sweet consisting of 7-8 ingredients from different parts of the world. The manufacturer’s shop is located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh where they produce ‘Exotica’, the dry Mithai made from ingredients like blueberries from the USA, macadamia nuts from South Africa and Australia and Hazelnuts from Europe.
“We are very proud to make our Indian Mithai go global and consumed by everyone. We are highly obliged that the demand for this sweet has risen since Diwali. The demand mostly came from the US, UK, Middle East, Dubai, and South Africa,” said Shrijith Gupta, who worked at the shop.
The bite-size sweet of 2.5 cm has an outer coating made of pure edible gold offered in a wooden box to increase the shelf life of the sweets.

SOT, Shrijith Gupta, Shop staff: “Best dry fruits around the world are fused into one productand then it is garnished and it is made with a few great delicacies. Because if you talk about the average time which Indian mithai (sweets) takes around 4 to 4 and half hours. But this sweet takes 2.5 times more which is 12 to 14 hours. And then with this also packed in a huge treasure box.”

SOT, Shrijith Gupta, Shop staff: “We are very proud to make our Indian Mithai go global and consumed by everyone. We are highly obliged that the demand for this sweet has risen up since Diwali. The demand mostly came from the US, UK, Middle East, Dubai, and South Africa.”

SOT, Rathika Sinha, Customer: “It’s really nice in taste and today’s everyone is on a diet. It’s really very less sweet in this and it tastes really great.”

Dash Gupta, Customer: “This is really expensive as compared to other sweets I believe. But I think it’s worth the price that we are paying for it. Rs 50,000 (EUR 584) Per Kg I think it’s worth having a sweet-like exotica fully plated in gold with different types of dry fruits around the world. So it’s really amazing to see a sweet like this.”
