Demonstrators rallied in Thessaloniki on Wednesday to protest against mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.

Protesters were seen marching with signs and Greek flags while chanting slogans.

“We are free people and we are not obliged to do anything to our body without being asked. So we don’t agree with the government,” said a rallygoer.

On July 12, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the vaccine would be mandatory for some workers including nursing home staff and healthcare workers, while unvaccinated customers will not be allowed inside bars, cinemas and other establishments.

According to the latest data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Centre, Greece has seen a total of 485,015 cases of COVID-19, with 12,902 related deaths.

SOT, Protester: “We now here in Thessaloniki to demonstrate against the obligatory vaccine. We are free people and we are not obliged to do anything to our body without being asked. So we don’t agree with the government.”

SOT, Koroksiros Haralampos, President of Workers Union in AHEPA hospital (Greek): “We, the colleagues (workers at AHEPA hospital), gathered also from the hospital, to strengthen the current demonstration, we are not anti-vaxxers, we are against the obligation of the vaccine, we say yes to democracy, yes to freedom.”
