Five koalas who were removed from the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) earlier this year, have just returned to their natural habitat with a new joey.

The animals were taken to the Australian National University specialist Endangered Species quarters, just before the Orroral Valley bushfire burned through 22% of the reserve.

ACT Environment Minister Mick Gentleman said that the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve had now reopened to visitors, but the nearby Namadgi National Park is still closed.

The bushfires devastated huge areas in Australia and have killed an estimated billion native animals.
