Celebrations swept through the West Bank town of Dora, West Hebron, as the Palestinian prisoner who has been on hunger strike for 141 days to protest being imprisoned by Israel without charge or trail, eventually ended his fast on Tuesday.

Scores of Palestinians were seen heading towards Abu Huash’s house, some of them hoisted flags representing different Palestinian factions, where they celebrated and cheerfully congratulated his family for his decision.

“In the course of the past days, we saw a psychological war in every sense of the word staged by the Israeli intelligence service, which was procrastinating in inking a deal to release Hisham and to end his strike,” Hisham Abu Hawash’s brother Imad Abu Hawash.

“Today, Hisham triumphed a few minutes ago, he conquered the criminals, achieving victory for Palestine in every sense of the word,” he went on to say.

Under an agreement conducted by Palestinian and Israeli officials, Abu Hawash will be released on February 26, the date of halting his non-renewal administrative detention.

SOUNDBITE

SOT, Imad Abu Hawash, Hisham Abu Hawash’s brother (Arabic): “In the course of the past days, we saw a psychological war in every sense of the word staged by the Israeli intelligence service, which was procrastinating in inking a deal to release Hisham and to end his strike. Today, Hisham triumphed a few minutes ago, he conquered the criminals, achieving victory for Palestine in every sense of the word. The deal he inked today is entitled to halt the administrative detention on February 26, 2022, within less than 50 days from now.”

SOT, Imad Abu Hawash, Hisham Abu Hawash’s brother (Arabic): “We dedicate this ecstasy to all the Palestinian people in the diaspora and camps, Gaza, Jenin, Hebron, and anywhere in the world. And to every free individual on the globe who took a firm stance and supported Hisham. Hisham sends a message to his fellow administrative detainees to rebel since you have nothing to lose but chains and disappointment.”

SOT, Adel Al-Huraibi, Hisham Abu Hawash’s relative (Arabic): “Thank God, Lord of the Worlds, who relieved her father, and we pray to God that the rest of the prisoners will be released, and to get rid of this sword of administrative detention over the neck of Palestinian people.”

SOT, Musa Abu Sharar, Attendee (Arabic): “We supported Hisham from the first second of his detention, and we will proceed with the others. This is not the last battle but the elevated, simply because the Palestinian individual has a cause, and the owner of the cause shall not be frightened, till his death. Hisham was about to die, yet he offered us life. Hisham was on hunger strike, and as he was prone to death, he gave us life.”
