Huge Fire Breaks Out Near Southampton Stadium Cancels Match

This drone footage shows a plume of smoke coming from the St Mary’s area of Southampton.

According to reports, a huge fire broke out just after 1pm, a few hours before the match between Southampton and Preston.

Southampton Football Club announced the match against Preston North End had been postponed, after consulting with emergency services.

It was confirmed that the blaze involved four industrial units and a total of 18 fire engines arrived at the scene, fire service say.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation but there are believed to be no serious injuries.

People across the city have been posting videos on social media of thick smoke billowing across the sky.

Roads near the stadium remain closed as firefighters continue to tackle the blaze.
