Huge Wildfire Erupts Across Southern California Prompting 500 Homes to be Evacuated

A wildfire that erupted in Southern California has prompted evacuation orders for between 400 and 500 homes in the area.

The blaze raged over thousands of acres of land and the thick plume of smoke billowing out from the fire could be seen from miles away.

The fire was reported shortly after 15:30 (local time) on August 12, in the Lake Hughes area of the Angeles National Forest, about 40 miles north of Los Angeles.

Authorities said more than 15.6 square miles had been scorched and that no injuries or damage to homes were reported.
