Former UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn expressed no regrets for the campaign his party led in the previous British general election in 2019, where he lost to Boris Johnson, in a speech he gave via video from London for the Rosa-Luxembourg conference held in Berlin, on Saturday.

“I stand absolutely by the manifesto that we fought the election on,” said the politician of the 2019 campaign.

He addressed widespread media coverage at the time that accused him of anti- semitism as “hurtful” and commented “I will never compromise on racism or conceded any ground on racism in any form whatsoever.”

Jeremy Corbyn was leader of the Labour party from 2015 to 2020. He is currently Member of Parliament for the constituency Islington North, a position he has held since 1983.

SOT, Jeremy Corbyn, British Former Leader of the Labour Party: “Over the past two years since sadly we lost the general election in Britain. We lost that general election under a barrage of media attacks against leading figures of the Labour party, particularly against me, but we also lost the election because of the activities of the right in the labour movement and elsewhere that undermined a labour campaign that was about transforming our society, challenging the elitist control of the media and of wealth and power within our society. I stand absolutely by the manifesto that we fought the election on.”

SOT Jeremy Corbyn, British Former Leader of the Labour Party: “I have been accused of some horrible things in my lifetime. Nothing is more hurtful than some of the allegations that were thrown against me. I simply say this in response to all of those: ‘I am an anti-racist all my life, and I will die an anti-racist.’ I will never compromise on racism or conceded any ground on racism in any form whatsoever, and what I think the most exciting thing over the past two years has been the growth of the Black Lives Matter movement that has promoted education worldwide, helped us to understand the need to de-colonise the education curriculum, particularly in Europe and in this country, the United Kingdom but has also given that sense of global solidarity to people in struggle.”

SOT Jeremy Corbyn, British Former Leader of the Labour Party: “What is the crime that Julian Assange has committed? What has he done? Who has he threatened, who has he put in a place of danger? His revealing of information about military activities by the US, by others, by the activities of the CIA in undermining legitimately elected democratic governments and by explaining the whole process around the Iraq war and the brutality of the occupation of Iraq and indeed of other places has made him a target of those who would have us go to another war, made him a target for those who would want to see the world in a very different way from those that I suspect do on this call. So I am very much part of the campaign for the release of Julien Assange.”
