Hundreds of local residents attended the cremation ceremony for the late King Anak Agung Ngurah Manik Parasara in Denpasar, Bali, on Friday.

Participants paraded with towers as high as 10 metres (33 feet) containing the body of King Pemecutan during the large-scale Hindu cremation ceremony of ‘Ngaben.’

King Parasara of Bali, also known as the King of Pemecutan, died in late December 2021 at the age of 76.

SOUNDBITE:

SOT, Ngurah Agung Damar Negara, Son of King Pemecutan (Indonesian): “This is a series of events for one month, he died on December 22, 2021, then only in his ‘ngaben’ now January 21, 2022, so this takes a very long time, but we still apply health protocols.” *ROUGH TRANSLATION*
