Iran: Dozens burn US, Israeli flags in Tehran on Soleimani death anniversary

A group of Tehran university students and local residents burned US and Israeli flags outside the Swiss Embassy in Tehran on Sunday to mark the second anniversary of the assassination of General Ghasem Soleimani through a drone strike.
The protesters shouted slogans and threw eggs at the building of the Swiss embassy, which has served as the US’s ‘Protecting Power’ in Iran since 1980. Participants further expressed their disapproval by burning and kicking US and Israeli flags.
Qasem Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in the Iraqi capital on 3 January 2020 on the orders of US President Donald Trump. In Iran, the general was considered a national hero for preventing the expansion of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia in the region, but the US saw him as a terrorist and the military face of Iranian interference in the region’s neighbouring countries.

We should see how Haj Qasem’s revenge is taken. And as a student, I want to say that we are not careless. We want exactly what all people are chanting.”
