Iran: Dozens gather in support of Lebanon amid diplomatic spat over war in Yemen

Dozens of protesters gathered in Tehran, on Wednesday, to voice solidarity with Lebanon amid a diplomatic spat with Gulf states over comments by Lebanon’s Information Minister George Kordahi on the war in Yemen.
The demonstration, organised by the Yemeni Students Union, saw protesters holding Yemeni, Lebanese, Iranian and Syrian flags as they expressed support for Kordahi and Yemen.
On Sunday, Saudi Arabia expelled the Lebanese ambassador and imposed a blanket ban on all imports from Lebanon after Kordahi appeared to call Saudi Arabia and the UAE ‘aggressors’ in the war in Yemen. The UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait also took diplomatic action against Lebanon.

SOT, Protester (Arabic): “We came here in solidarity with the oppressed Yemeni people, this heroic people who gave martyrs of women and children, we came to raise our voices against the Israeli, American and Saudi crimes. This oppressed people that we, as a Lebanese society and as an Islamic resistance, must support, we support this people and join our voice to their voice because we share the same issue and the same approach, and God willing, we will defeat these unjust, corrupt, criminal forces.”

SOT, Protester (Arabic): “We came here today to say that we are here, the people of the resistance in Lebanon, our approach is that of Yemen, our creed is that of Yemen, and God willing, the House of Saud and America will inevitably vanish soon, God willing.”

SOT, Adib Alsabri, protester (Farsi): “Today, we came to support the Lebanese information minister and say that we are by his side and all the resistant people support you and the Yemeni people. And God willing, Yemen and the resistant countries will win soon.”

SOT, Safoora Ahmadbeigi, protester (Farsi): “One person in Lebanon, one Christian in Lebanon, defended the rights of the oppressed people of Yemen. And he has been attacked. Now, we want to defend the one who defended what’s right, and declare that we defend what’s right wherever it is. Saudi officials must also know that if they want to stay, they must be on the right side.”

SOT, Ahmad Alshami, Cultural Head of the Yemeni Union in Iran (Farsi): “We tell Saudi Arabia that when their oil and their riyals and their bridges could not do anything in Yemen, they can never threaten the Lebanese people.”
