A new coronavirus vaccination centre has started operating in the former US embassy in Tehran on Saturday.
The centre, called Martyr Kasra Esmaili Vaccination Centre, was transformed by the Basij students of Tehran Universities of Medical Sciences and has a daily injection capacity of 2,000 to 4,000 shots in each working shift, according to personnel.
“People do not have to wait that much here, that is, from the time the people enter and leave, in a normal situation, it takes about half an hour, and for this reason, and also because of the availability of this space, which has a nostalgic atmosphere and is the former is the US embassy, people come here, and, thank God, it has been well received and it operates as much as we have the capacity,” said Executive Vice President of the centre Amir Hossein Heidari.
In an area of five thousand square metres with 22 vaccination teams deployed, Sinopharm vaccines are provided to the general public every day from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM local time (03:00 AM to 09:30 AM GMT).
While some visitors said they hoped to ‘get back to normal life a bit ‘after they’ve been vaccinated, some people at the centre voiced their concerns regarding the vaccination process in the country.
“In my opinion, the vaccination pace has not been very good so far, it should have gone much faster so that we would not face this crisis,” said Mahzadeh, a Tehran resident.
By August, only 3 million of the more than 80 million Iranian population had received both dosages of the vaccine.

SOT, Mohammad Javad Shaeghi, Shahid Esmaili Vaccination Centre personnel (Farsi): “It can be said that we can vaccinate between around 2,000 and 4,000 people in each working shift, so that, God willing, we can increase the speed of vaccination of the Iranian population and, God willing, we can get through this crisis as soon as possible.”
