Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi addressed Iran’s parliament as it signed off on all except one of his cabinet picks, in Tehran, on Wednesday.
Raisi spoke about the diplomatic precepts his government would follow, as well as its commitments to fighting corruption, when he referred to his previous role as the head of Iran’s judiciary.
“Our programme will be interaction with countries. Dignity, wisdom, and interests [of the country] are the focus of our work. The rights of the great nation of Iran and the interests of the Iranian nation are our central issues,” he said.
“We are pursuing the issue of lifting sanctions with power. But we do not make people’s economy dependent on these issues,” he added.
The Iranian Parliament went on to approve off 18 out of 19 of Raisi’s all-male cabinet picks, rejecting only his proposed education minister.
Raisi was sworn in as Iran’s eighth president on August 5, and faces an uphill struggle with crippling US sanctions still in force and a fifth wave of coronavirus infections ripping through the country.

SOT, Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian President (Farsi): “Our programme will be interaction with countries. Dignity, wisdom, and the interests [of the country] are the main focus of our work. The rights of the great nation of Iran and the interests of the Iranian nation are our central issues. In all the speeches and all the announcements and all the meetings, I emphasised this issue. We will emphasise it again.”
SOT, Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian President (Farsi): “We are pursuing the issue of lifting sanctions with power. But we do not make people’s economy dependent on these issues.”
SOT, Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian President (Farsi): “The way out of the country’s problems is to pay attention to the resistance economy, with endurance and resistance. We also intend to pursue these policies of the resistance economy with power, God willing.”
SOT, Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian President (Farsi): “We do not have a red line in dealing with corruption. One thing to keep in mind is that our red line on corruption is just talking without proof and attributing without evidence. In the judiciary, where I had been able to work, I had always said that our red line is that someone attributes something to someone without proof and without evidence. This is the red line. However, we do not care who he is, where he belongs or where he is. In practice, you saw that this is our plan and policy and this will be the case, God willing.”
