Iran Stages Attack on Replica US Aircraft Carrier in Threat to 5th Fleet

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard fired missiles from a helicopter targeting a replica aircraft carrier in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, state television reported, in a display apparently aimed at threatening the US 5th Fleet.

Iranian commandos also fast-roped down from a helicopter onto the mock carrier in a staged military exercise called “Great Prophet 14.”

The replica ship, complete with 16 fake fighter jets, resembles the Nimitz-class carriers that the US Navy routinely sails into the Persian Gulf from the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the waterway.

The provocative move comes amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.
