Iran: Tehran holds commemorative ceremony for martyrs of Iran-Iraq war

A commemoration in honour of the 42 martyrs killed during the Iran-Iraq war and medical staff who died during the COVID-19 pandemic was held on Wednesday in Tehran.
The ceremonial event was also in memory of the ‘Prince of Resistance Martyrs,’ Qasem Soleimani, Iran’s top security and intelligence commander. He was killed on January 3 2020, in a drone strike at Baghdad International Airport authorised by former President Trump.

Family members sat next to hand-drawn images of martyrs while observing different speeches and performances on stage.

The official event was held at the invitation of the Basij organization, and it was also a part of the Basij week events. The Basij, meaning ‘the mobilization’ in Persian, is one of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

It is quite clear in their behaviour, character, and position that they are realising the period of their decline. Our people stand firm; they have clear and strong positions. Resistance, persistence, and stability have always worked throughout history, especially in the forty-two or forty-three years we have experienced these conditions.”

SOT, General Hassan Hasanzadeh, Prophet Mohammad Rasulullah IRGC Commander in Tehran (Farsi): “It is better that they do not experience the great and majestic nation of Iran anymore, because if they want to experience this nation, they have to experience another defeat themselves.”

SOT, Hossein Jafari, Ceremony organiser (Farsi): “This year, a new thing we did during the ninth memorial of the martyrs was that we revived the memory of the health martyrs, with the enthusiastic presence of the families, of the Health Defenders. Praise be to God, this year, the event was held well, considering the health protocols and the observance [of health guidelines] by the loved ones and the people. And the memory of the martyrs was kept alive with the presence of teenagers and young people. Today, it is the daily need of all our loved ones that we review the memories of the martyrs and the wills of the martyrs, and the biographies of the martyrs. Praise be to God, this year the ceremony was well attended by the people and with the presence of all the people.”

SOT, Fatemeh Arghavani, Sister of a holy shrine defender (Farsi): “The purpose of these conferences is to show that we are proud of the path of the martyrs in this way. This is a great path, and young people and others must see and learn that if there is a lasting secret and the human being and his name and memory are to be lasting, it will be with martyrdom.”
