Protesters burned US and Israeli flags before setting fire to a replica of the US embassy in Baghdad on Friday.

The event marked the second anniversary of an attack on the US embassy by Iraqi demonstrators in response to airstrikes led by the US.

The demonstrators marched with Iraqi flags and pictures of Qasem Soleimani, the chief of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards and Iraqi militia commander, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis who were killed in US drone strike on January 3 2020.

The US has decided to keep 2,500 troops to the Middle East amid threats from Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS, ISIL), who despite their defeat in 2017, continue to carry out attacks.
