Iraq: Crowds flock to Adhamiya to celebrate birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad

Crowds flocked to the city of Adhamiya, north of Baghdad, on Sunday, to celebrate ‘Mawlid al-Nabi’ which marks the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth.

People gathered in the vicinity of the Abu Hanifa al-Numan Mosque where the streets were decorated with lights and fireworks were launched to celebrate this occasion.

“The forces of the Baghdad Operations Command are taking all necessary security measures in the Adhamiya area, especially as you can see large crowds are celebrating tonight, hoping that security and stability will remain in the capital, Baghdad, God willing, thanks to the security forces,” stated member of the Baghdad Operations Command Abbas bin Anna.

The celebration of the Prophet’s birthday in Adhamiya is an annual tradition that a large number of residents attend.

SOT, Omar al-Mashdani, Local resident (Arabic): “The atmosphere today, praise be to God, is beautiful. We are celebrating the birth of the Prophet of the Prophets, Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace. As you can see, the situation is stable and it is secure. Thank God the atmosphere is very beautiful.”
