Repatriated Iraqi migrants arrived in Baghdad, Thursday, after a government’s charter flight brought back hundreds of refugees stranded in the Polish-Belarusian border.
According to reports, over 400 people voluntarily boarded the Iraqi Airways flight from Minsk to Baghdad, with a stop in Erbil.
The Iraqi government has appealed for its citizens to fly home as the humanitarian crisis on the border deepens, with thousands of migrants stranded in the cold and lacking aid.

SOT, Jihad, Iraqi Civil Aviation Media Officer (Arabic): “Coordination was made with the Aviation Administration in Belarus and under the direct supervision of the head of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Nael Saad, to obtain official approvals for the take-off and landing of the Iraqi Airways plane to transport migrants from Minsk to Baghdad”

SOT, Arshad Hassan, Migrant: “We have lived a very difficult experience at the Polish-Belarus border, as the Belarusian army told us that they will take us to cross to Poland, while they did the opposite, as they put us on the border with Lithuania. They also took our phones’ Simcard and left us in the forest without caring whether we will die or live, as that is our problem. They took our food and water and left us in the forests. We stayed for three days in the forest and did not know the way back to the city. We suffered a lot, but thank God, we returned to Iraq.”
