Donald Trump’s Republican arch-rival Liz Cheney has lost her Wyoming seat in Congress to a candidate backed by the former American president.

Cheney has been the Republican Party’s fiercest critic of Trump since the invasion of the Capitol building on January 6 last year - and one of the few Republican’s who called for impeachment.

The importance of Wyoming, the US’ main agricultural state and land of rodeos and cowboys, holds a special significance for many Republicans.
