Israel is setting up a ‘global network shield’ against cyberattacks, said Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett who was speaking at the Cyber Week conference in Tel Aviv on Wednesday.

It will be an “online, real-time global network defence,” Bennett said.

The announcement came as the world is reeling from the aftermath of the Pegasus scandal revelations.

According to an investigation published Sunday by 17 media sources worldwide including Le Monde and The Guardian, the Pegasus software, developed by the Israeli company NSO Group, made it possible to spy on at least 180 journalists, 600 politicians as well as 85 rights activists and 65 business leaders since 2016.

The Israeli tech firm NSO Group, which created Pegasus, said it provided “authorised governments with technology that helps them combat terror and crime.”
