Fans of legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona flocked to Naples’ Spanish district to celebrate their hero’s life on the one year anniversary of his death on Thursday.

Maradona turned Naples into his second home during his career, leading them to the club it’s first and only two league titles to date, as well as a UEFA cup win.

Forever loved and remembered as a hero in Naples, the Spanish district unveiled a giant mural of their hero on the anniversary of his death.

Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis was in attendance and shared some words for ‘El Pibe de Oro.’
“When a legend is a legend, energy grows from their adoration. Look here, look how many adore him, 300 of them came from Argentina, from Boca. So, I wanna say, this is a gathering of giant affection.

You don’t just take a plane and do 14 hours of flight, especially during COVID and not to mention the economic problems. So, these people who have come here to adore their idol deserve some applause,” remarked De Laurentiis.
