Iwaki railway station in Fukushima prefecture appeared deserted on Tuesday, as trains were cancelled due to Tropical Storm Nepartak, which was expected to make landfall in eastern Japan on Tuesday night.

Information screens displayed announcements warning of cancelled journeys due to the approaching storm, while lone passengers waited outside the station under their umbrellas on a rainy evening.

A few passengers checked in and out of the train station while an employee of a nearby shop could be spotted taking advantage of the quiet to rearrange the store.

Nepartak is expected to approach east and northeastern Japan from the Pacific on Tuesday, making landfall in Kanto and Tohoku regions and bringing heavy rain, stormy winds up to 108 km per hour (67 mph) and high waves.
