Newly released footage shows the aftermath of an apparent attack on the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco.

The footage shows a blue car shortly after it crashed through the front doors of the consulate. It then shows a scuffle between police officers, security staff and the driver of the car.

The driver appears to produce a knife and starts stabbing at the officers. Police officers then shoot the driver. He was taken to hospital but was later pronounced dead.

San Francisco Police identified the deceased suspect as Zhanyuan Yang, a 31-year-old Chinese national. Pictures released by the police show there was a crossbow in Yang’s car. No further details of Yang, his connection to the consulate, or possible motive have been released.
