A crane accident caused damage to one of the Mitiga towers in Tripoli this week, with aftermath footage from Friday showing the scale of the damage.

The tower was damaged by a crane, which collapsed onto the building, leaving a rift across the glass facade.

“Yesterday, a company came to the place and started dismantling some things. After that, I did not understand what happened, and I heard the sound of a blow. When watching what happened, we found this blow in the towers. I think there is a technical error, God knows best,”, said an eyewitness working in one of the cafes opposite the tower.

According to local media, the “Shatt Road Towers” project, opposite Maitika Island, has been neglected and its building works have been suspended since 2011.
