Ruptly is live from Brasilia on Tuesday, September 7 as supporters of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro are rallying on the occasion of Brazil’s 199th Independence Day.

The protest takes place amid ongoing tensions between Bolsonaro and the Supreme Court, specifically Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who ordered the arrest of former congressman and Bolsonaro’s ally Roberto Jefferson, accusing him of being part of a digital militia that can potentially threaten Brazil’s democracy.

Bolsonaro has announced that he plans to join protesters both in Brasilia and in Sao Paulo, later in the day.

Counter-protests are also expected to take place. ​
