Ruptly is live from La Palma in the Canary Islands on Saturday, October 2 as the volcano situated in the La Cumbre Vieja area continues to erupt.

On Tuesday night lava emerging from the volcano reached Atlantic waters raising fears of explosions and the release of toxic gases.

The solidified magma is creating a delta that is already 500 meters wide on the Tazacorte coast. The eruptions have thus far prompted evacuations of more than 6,000 people from numerous villages.

Smoke clouds billowed from the volcano as molten rock flowed down Cumbre Vieja’s western flank. Scientists have warned that the eruption could continue for weeks or even months.
