South Korea was at the epicenter of the flood! Roads, railways, cars, and homes in the Seoul and Gangwon metropolitan areas were flooded due to heavy rains.
Two people were evacuated after their home was flooded. Four people were rescued due to rising water levels in a valley in the same region. Nearby, firefighters were sent to a gas station to remove nearly 30 tons of water from an underground facility.
Dozens of trees collapsed in Gyeonggi-do, and about 20 floods were reported.
Firefighters said they had eliminated at least 44 cases of flooding in the city.
Subway cars passing through Huang Station were forced to slow down during the day because the rails were flooded with water. Operations resumed 20 minutes later, with no property damage reported.
The weather service said a stationary front causes the showers - the boundary between cold and warm air masses neither advancing nor receding.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the stationary front will likely affect the country’s central region and cause strong winds, rain, thunder, and lightning. In some areas, more than 350 millimeters of rain may fall.
Heavy rain advisories and warnings have been issued for much of Seoul and the northeastern province of Gangwon-do, with the weather bureau advising people to stay away from rivers and reservoirs and watch out for landslides.
The weather service warned that a lot of precipitation could pass in the country’s central region, and more than 500 millimeters could fall in some areas.
The Met Office said North Korea would also likely experience heavy rainfall this week, which could cause flooding in some areas if rivers burst their banks.
