The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is set to hold a virtual press conference to announce the time of the 2022 Doomsday Clock on Thursday, January 20.
The Doomsday Clock, which this year commemorates its 75th anniversary, is a metaphorical symbol that represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe.
In 2020, the clock moved further to 100 seconds before midnight, the closest it has ever been. To-date, the clock has been reset 24 times, raising new questions with every round.
This year’s focus revolves around present issues of conflict and nuclear risk, as well as climate change and disruptive technologies.
