British World Boxing Council (WBC) and lineal world champion Tyson ‘The Gypsy King’ Fury and the American former WBC world champion Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder are set to hold a press conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 6, ahead of their much anticipated boxing Heavyweight world title trilogy fight.
Fury and Wilder first fought in December 2018, which ended in a disputed split draw. The fighters re-matched in February 2020, where Fury won via technical knockout in the seventh-round. The trilogy bout was initially scheduled for July 2020, but was continuously postponed until October 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions, including after Fury’s own positive COVID-19 test result in July 2021.
Unbeaten 33-year-old Fury (30-0-1), who became world champion in November 2015 after a win over Wladimir Klitschko, is considered the favourite despite not having fought since his second bout with Wilder. The 35-year-old American (42-1-1), suffered the only loss of his career against Fury, which he blamed on the “way too heavy” 40 pound (kilogram) elaborate costume worn during his ring walk.
The blockbuster fight is scheduled to take place Saturday, October 9, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with an expected start time around 11:30 p.m. local ET time (03:30 a.m. GMT).
