Mexico: AMLO promises to "guarantee peace" at National Guard barracks opening in Chihuahua

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, popularly known as AMLO, promised on Saturday to “guarantee peace” in the country, during the inauguration of a National Guard headquarters in Villa Ahumada, Chihuahua.

“If we do not solve the problem of insecurity and violence, we will not be recognised, remembered, as good leaders, that is why I accept this challenge to guarantee peace and tranquility, in Chihuahua and in our whole country,” said the president.

Lopez Obrador also pointed out that the migration of Mexicans to the United States served as an escape valve in the past, in order to avoid a social breakdown in the country.

Despite the increase in the number of National Guard troops, reducing violence in Mexico continues to be a pressing issue AMLO’s government.
