Collapsed buildings lined the streets in Tecolutla, Veracruz, in the wake of Hurricane Grace, as seen on Saturday.

Homes and businesses could be seen destroyed by the storm, with some rooves having been completely torn off, whilst fallen trees littered the streets.

Local resident Erika Herrera described how the whole town had been destroyed, going on to say that the area had never before experienced ‘his magnitude of destruction’.

Eight people in eastern Mexico were killed by the hurricane, which brought with it torrential rain and severe flooding, with wind speeds reaching up to 201kph (125mph).

SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Erika Herrera, Local resident (Spanish): “My entire town is destroyed. Has this never happened? Well, never this magnitude of destruction. It’s very sad, of course, there are many families that have been badly affected in the town.”

SOT, Maria del Rosario Zavala, Local resident (Spanish): “Well, I have a room back there and I went to sleep there, but, around eleven thirty, the first (roof) sheet was blown off. Then, they were all blown off. It was fast, less than two hours.”
