Min Aung Hlaing: The General Behind the Myanmar Military Coup

Myanmar’s acting president, Myint Swe, has met with top army officials in Naypyitaw.

Immediately after being named president, Swe handed power to General Min Aung Hlaing.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is due to retire soon, after being commander of the army since 2011.

If the junta holds an election in a year’s time, as promised, this would allow him to take a civilian leadership role.
